Why Pyrose?
The year is 1993 and for seven year old me, literacy was a real issue. I remember once the teacher asked if anyone could spell “is” and I threw
up my hand, excited to get an easy one. I had sounded it out like I was taught so when the teacher chose me I was ready, “I… Z!”. Suddenly everyone was laughing and I was really confused, “How did I get it wrong AGAIN, after sounding it out!?!” I decided then and there I was going to learn to read and one day write a book of my own!…
Fast forward to 2025, I’m an author, playwright, spoken word artist and practitioner of performance art. I’ve taught poetry and creative writing
skills to students aged 5-85 from all walks of life, from the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith London, to Ekumfi Etsibeedu in Ghana and so much in
between since 2011. I have performed at events such as the Olympics and written for globally recognised brands and institutions such as Coca
Cola and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Having run workshops around the world I realise just how many fantastically creative people with incredible stories don’t have access to publishing and I decided to become the change I wanted to see in the world, so Pyrose was born.
